History of Lovejoys
Lovejoys has grown from a family farm, through generations of greengrocers and now on to supplying North Wiltshire's finest restaurants, hotels, pubs and cafes with fresh fruit, vegetables, dairy and bread. Director and owner, Neil Mortimer spent over 20 years as a grower in Bromham where he amassed a wealth of knowledge on all things fruit and veg!
From there came Lovejoys Food Store, opened in 1995 located in the busy town of Melksham and featured in "Food & Drink" and "Produce News" magazine. Here is where Neil saw the need to diversify into health foods and later to wholesale, in the process writing a new chapter in the life of this fruit and veg man.
Lovejoys Wholesale grew from humble beginnings with Neil personally delivering in a refrigerated van to a handful of local customers, however within a few months this had grown to over 40 customers.
Currently with four drivers, a fleet of four vans, and over 60 valuable customers, Lovejoys has become an established name in the wholesale produce trade.
One reason for our growing reputation and success is down to the relationships we have with our customers. Neils vast experience from his growing days means that when a chef needs a little inspiration he's their man. Knowing what is in season, as well as what's best value has been a huge asset to our customers when developing their menus.
We also have excellent working relationships with local growers who Neil speaks to daily. They let us know what vegetables are around the corner, what fruits are growing well during our glorious British summers and what may be worth avoiding. All important aspects when you're creating your menu, catering for a function or deciding on your weekend specials.
